How to Add Family Heirlooms and Antiques to your D?cor - Being ...

It?s the time of year when you?re likely going to have more of your family around for upcoming holidays, and just the fall/winter season. If you?re anything like me, you have certain things that were given to you from family members, perhaps passed down to you.

Do you tend to hide your family heirlooms or antiques, throughout most of the year and only bring them out when you have family coming over? Or, perhaps you have received some real treasures, that you actually enjoy, but you?re not sure how best to display them?

The trick is to add in your heirlooms or antiques in such a way that they don?t stand out too much, but instead blend in naturally with the rest of your d?cor. Typically, at least in the movies, people tend to put that one ugly piece on their mantel or in the centre of their dining table. If the rest of your d?cor is more close to modern than antique, doing this will draw too much attention the one particular item.

For smaller nick-nacks, an easy solution is to mix up a bookcase ?rather than having all books on each shelf, add an antique or two to spread things out.

Do you have family heirlooms or antiques in your home? How do you creatively add them to the rest of your d?cor?
