New device hides objects from sonar

It would be easy to mistake engineer Jos? S?nchez-Dehesa?s latest creation for a trinket. The plastic gizmo is a mere 17 centimeters (6.7 inches) long and looks like a cross between a birdcage and an ostrich egg. But appearances can be deceiving. This little device achieves something never done before: It hides a solid object from sound waves. Essentially, it?s a cloaking device.
